I ate up every damn minute of it. Both of us did, which is really saying something because I can’t think of many movies my dad and I absolutely love. We both had such a great time and I’m eager to see it again.
It was such an incredible film, evocative of all the great sci-fi movies that have become iconic to our culture. There seem to be a hell of a lot of people scathing it for being “unoriginal”, and while I personally believe it to be very original, I don’t think it necessarily has to be. It’s a clear love letter to science fiction of all shapes and sizes, combining all the things that make the genre great into a single mind-blowing package. The visuals, music and acting are all superb, and Tom Cruise is (as always) a phenomenal lead.
I dare not spoil a single moment of this movie for any of you (it’s very, VERY twisty), but if you’re a fan of science fiction, I highly recommend it. It’s not for everyone, especially not people who tend to be really cynical about movies… but if you can just set aside your misgivings, if you go into it just wanting to have a great time, I guarantee you will find something to enjoy.
